The company operates across four primary divisions: critical illness recovery hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and occupational health centers. Its Critical Illness Recovery Hospital division focuses on patients with severe and complex medical conditions, such as heart failure, infectious diseases, respiratory failure, renal issues, neurological events, and trauma requiring extended recovery. The Rehabilitation Hospital division delivers therapeutic and rehabilitative care for conditions including brain and spinal cord injuries, strokes, amputations, neurological disorders, orthopedic challenges, pediatric disabilities, and cancer. As of December 31, 2021, Select Medical's extensive network included 104 critical illness recovery hospitals spanning 28 states, 30 rehabilitation hospitals across 12 states, 1,881 outpatient rehabilitation clinics in 38 states and D.C., 518 occupational health centers in 41 states, and 134 on-site clinics at employer locations. Founded in 1996, the company maintains its headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
